Two words about the
latest
Ronaldo Saga, which
apply equally well to all those
footballers who stay
stuck to their roles after 40,
without really performing
to deserve their positions, but
think that their History
allows them a free pass, and to all
those U.S. senators
and representatives who cling to
their spots (and to
life) from a thread due to old age,
but think that they
can truly represent because they
have done it for
several decades, even though it is
obvious that they
are simply shadows of who they used
to be and their
present "service" is clearly a
disservice to their con-
stituents. If you are unable to
realize that the time
has come to withdraw and you force
other people
to do that for you, don't you dare
take it as lack of
respect on their part (when you have
been receiving
their praises and accolades and/or
their votes for so
long). Think of this as a huge failure on
your side and
as your
having let down yourselves and
your own at
a task that is, oftentimes, more
difficult and more
challenging than climbing up: To
understand when
and how to manage to climb back down
graciously.
The girls are also getting into the
Group Phase
of the Champions League starting tomorrow
at
Vinovo against Benfica.

Today, our first
game for the Europa League
against NEC at Juventus Stadium.
I mean no
disrespect to any other team and I
know that,
given recent performances, they
would be
justified not to expect much from
Juve, but
looking at that table, it is no
stretch to believe
that Juve has the talent, the
experience and
the know-how to win this Trophy. We
MUST
take this very seriously. Imagine
how much
this would mean to all people at the
Club,
given that the only title we have
managed
to add to our collection in the last
few years
has been a Coppa Italia in '24.
Let's do this!

Given how the top 4 or 5 are doing,
if we have
any ambitions, this is simply not
good enough.
Play from minute 1 with the same
fervor and
determination that you are playing
when you
at last realize that it is too
late... That is what
distinguishes Inter's
Spirit from that of the
other teams. That they start
pounding from
the outset, regardless of whether
they are
ahead or behind, and you can tell
that, no
matter what, they are determined not
to leave
any points behind. And the other
teams see
that and are shred to pieces even by
thinking
of going up against them... Let us
(coach and
players and the unjustifiably
bloated admini-
sration) heed their example and at
least try
to turn things around NOW!!
I must add a couple of remarks here
regarding
the entire outlay of the Team,
which, in my opi-
nion, is to blame, to a large
extent, for those
unsatisfying performances lately.
Luciano likes
playing Zeki (from the left) and
Pierre (from the
right) as free-moving wingers, much
like attacking
midfielders rather than wingbacks. I
do not wish
to question this choice and it may
very well be
that he has his vision and his ideas
about these
roles, even though they could
possibly partially
overlap with those of Kenan and
Chico. However,
given this strategy, the system
seems, at times,
to become a 2-4-4 or a 2-5-3 and, as
one easily,
realizes, this is far from enough as
far as defen-
sive compactness and solidity go (we
paid the
price for this yesterday). If
Luciano wants to
continue along this path, I suggest
he experi-
ment with a starting 5-2-4 or 5-3-3
so that when
Zeki and Pierre go way up the field,
we remain
with 3-4-4 or 3-5-3, which would be
much better
in terms of defensive guarantees.
Usually, our
Captain (Manuel) stays far enough
behind that,
with Jhon and Gleison, they form a
triplet, but
without Manuel at that role
yesterday the system
imploded and we were left exposed
(at such
an unstable equilibrium that a
slight error was
leading to dramatic consequences). I
do hope
this vulnerability is nor repeated
and that there
is a corrective move. Finally, let
us fix some
roles!! We cannot continue with a
situation
that, apart from the starting XI,
every player
that comes in runs every which way,
without
a crisp predetermined understanding
of what
their roles and positions on the
system are.
The impression one gets after the
substitutions
is that of complete panic,
randomness and dis-
organization, as if the Club had not
been a Pro-
fessional Team, but a pickup
football ensemble
playing in the backstreets.

Disastrous performance. Edon tried,
but a single
player's brilliant performance is
not sound justi-
fication for optimism, given the
whole we are now
witnessing... Football is after all
a Team Sport and
needs organization, coordination and
the right
players, starting and substitutes,
at exactly the
right spots. We should have been
there by now.
If anyone had doubts about Anthony
Gordon's class,
then they were, certainly, watching
a different World
Cup than I, since, in the summer, he
was, undoubtedly,
if not the best, one of the most
indefatigable and inf-
luential players in the English
squad, alongside their
Captain.

Disappointing performance. If it had
not been for
Chico's virtuosity and inspiration,
there would be
very little indeed in this game. At
least Federico
saved the day close to expiration...

I am almost certain they will let
another opportunity
go wasted and, when the same
profiteering and the
same arrogance show their heads
again, they will
pretend to be waking up from another
stupor and
will vociferously proclaim their
ignorance and their
innocence once more. Only we will
have seen and
experienced this for the umpteenth
time and will not
be buying their explanations and
their pretentious
outrage any longer, and they will be
forced to be
parts of another disorderly and
hasty retreat to
save face (but most importantly
safeguard riches
and privileges). They have all
become so used and
entitled to comfort, luxury and
power that the only
thing they care about is for things
to continue as
usual. None of them are genuinely
interested in true
reform and in taking away monarchic
and oligarchic
super powers and super privileges
that should never
have been allowed in such an office
in the first place.
Why are you only
demanding that criminal activity
is not repeated and you are
not demanding
that all
net profits from the tournaments
be immediately
distributed (and not
stashed at "fifa"'s coffers) so
as to ensure
that bribes and grafts become
impos-
sible, unless the boss of bosses
spends his own
money (which we know it
isn't going to happen,
since he only wants and wants and
wants more

A stale Juve was not very

pitfalls. Our
opening is later today and, given
our last few
seasons' records, we need to be
extremely
careful to avoid ceding ground from
the get go.

Next Sunday, August the 23rd, we start
our next
battle for something good in
this year's Serie A
from Frosinone,
about one hour's drive from the
Capital. The local
team is back from a two-year
spell in Serie B, as are Venezia
and Monza,
but
in their case, having spent only one
year there.
On the other end, Cremonese,
Hellas
Verona and
Pisa
are now in Serie
B. Cremonese and Pisa fell
just after a short one year's
presence, but Verona
had been in Serie A for 7 seasons
and will be
missed (until they manage to
return).
